Maddie Yuille is a visual artist based in London. Yuille graduated from City and Guilds of London Art School with an MA in Fine Art in 2019. Her paintings are decidedly green – commenting both on the ecological relationship women, and traditionally women-healers, have had with the natural world, but also the negative association that green has specifically in depictions of women and witches. Yuille is driven by the materiality of painting; her work is led by an explorative use of paint, in which she works with a mixture of ink and oils, applying and removing the paint in varied ways to create images that vibrate with a sense of irrepressible growth and movement. In this vital landscape, both women and nature have agency. She strives to create paintings that have a sense of the organic to them, in which the materials used communicate a sense of the bodily experience of being human.
